The Year of the Woman
found object assemblage 2020, 70 inches X 20 inches
The record-breaking number of women candidates running for office in 2018 drew comparisons with the last time there was a so-called “Year of the Woman” 26 years ago in 1992. That year, as in 2018, a surge of women candidates ran for office and won. And yet, globally in 2020 women perform 66% of the world's work and produce 50% of the food but earn only 10% of the income and own just 1% of the property. Violence and sexual assault against women continues to be a global pandemic with women of color and lower income disproportionately affected. Please note this art piece is designed to be plugged into a wall outlet to be fully experienced.
