Holiday Dreams
found object assemblage 2017, 52 1/2 inches X 29 1/2 inches
Perhaps my very earliest memory was of carrying a paper bag of shells at Jekyll Island.
The bag burst and I cried. This piece began with the purchase of retro ocean art at a
yard sale and the memories of many family car trips. Roadside attractions always
beckoned to me with their promised mysterious thrills. I incorporated two nods to 1959,
the year that I was born - the biggest tail fins on an American car on the 1959 Eldorado
Cadillac, and Bobby Darin's recording of By the Sea. Most meaningful to me is the photo
of Betty Cabiniss and me. She was my friend and the biggest highlight of any trip we
took to Georgia. You are encouraged to gently interact with this piece - push the button, gently shake the snow globe, look at the map - where will your dreams take you?
