She's a Sly One

Throughout history women have had to be smart and sly to defy conventions and find their power within the context of male dominance and patriarchy.  Riffing on the idea of “coming out” – debutante parties, quinceaneras, etc. the wily raven’s head explodes as education, a little bit of fun, time, and worldly experiences forces the raven to “come out”.  This piece is a nod to rebellious women who despite the odds find their authentic selves.  And it is an ode to one such woman and special friend of mine for whom I made this piece.
